Strut Your Mutt

Held annually in June this is Homer Animal Friends dog extravaganza. The event starts with a dog walk followed by contests (best owner/dog look alike, best costume, biggest/smallest dog, best trick and best kisser) and games (musical frisbee and water balloon toss). There are vendors, demonstrations and of course hot dogs for lunch. The 2012 Strut Your Mutt is still in the planning stages, with a possible change in date to later in the year. Keep checking for additional information.

All monies go to the Homer Animal Friends spay/neuter program.

This year's event,  was held on June 4, 2011 and was a huge success with the weather cooperating at least through the walk. We had almost fifty individuals and families register for the walk - many with more than one dog, including a number from the Homer Animal Shelter with their "adopt-me" vests. There were booths manned by Homer Dog Trainers and Homer Hounds where lots of good information for dog owners was dispersed. Homer Dog Trainers even had a "Hot Dog Dunk" which was much appreciated by the dogs!!!! We wish to express our sincere thanks to our sponsors PetCo, Homer Tribune, Quick Draw H20 Service, Sundog Boarding, Homer Veterinary Clinic,  the Alderfer Group Realtors, Homer Hounds and Bar's Video and to our supporters Captain's Coffee, Coal Point Trading, Kachemak Wholesale, Latitude 59, Lisa Ann's Grooming, Our Best Friends, Safeway, Save-U-More, Ulmers and Wagon Wheel. Their donations of prizes, food, water and advertising helped make this "Strut" extra special. We also wish to thank the volunteers that made the event possible.

We received pledges of $103 from Karen West and $55 each from Brandon and Ashley Freeman - Thank you for your efforts and thank you to those that pledged money for your walk!!!!

Contests and games, although sparsely attended due to the rain, were enjoyed by all, with the winners as follows:

Gift certificates for the Homer Veterinary Clinic sponsored by the Homer Veterinary Clinic and The Alderfer Group Realtors were also awarded, as well as a gift certificate from Lisa Ann Grooming.

A big thank you to Joleigh Porter who donated her "Biggest Dog" prize - a 50 pound bag of dog food - to the Homer Animal Shelter!!
