2014 Strut Your Mutt

Saturday June 28th 2014  NOTE NEW TIME   4 PM to 6 PM

Park on corner of Sterling Highway and Pioneer Avenue, across from the Homer Veterinary Clinic

A gentle reminder – Your dog must be on leash at all times and have an ID tag displayed. Please be prepared to show proof of current rabies vaccination at the time of registration. We ask that you be prepared to “clean up” after your canine. We will provide bags and trash cans along the route. Will will also be providing drinking water for the dogs in the form of large community swimming pools. If it’s a hot day, the dogs may even be climbing into the pools. If your dog requires a separate drinking container, please bring your own bowl.

Two ways to register:

  1. Registration forms will be available shortly for pick up at Barb’s Video, Tangles or at the Homer Book Store. Consider providing extra support by getting pledges before the event. You can down load the registration and pledge forms here. Bring the completed Registration and Pledge forms with you on Strut Day.
  2. Register at the Strut – just show up on Strut Day at 4:00 pm

Collect pledges and receive prizes based on total pledges received. Pledge Sheet can be downloaded here. Start collecting pledges now.

Additional Information:

Why is this event being held? All proceeds from the Strut supports our low-cost spay/neuter programs.

Where will we walk? The walk begins at the park. Go down Woodside to Pioneer, east on Pioneer to Bartlett Street, up Bartlett Street to Spruceview, west on Spruceview to the Pratt Museum Trail system, Trail system back to Bartlett, down Bartlett to Pioneer, west on Pioneer to Woodside and then back to the park. Maps and schedule will be available at the Strut and will be available on line shortly.

Can I register if I don’t have a dog to walk? Yes everyone is welcome, with or without a dog to walk. If you don’ t have a dog, call the Homer Animal Shelter at 235-3141 and ask Sherry if you can “rent” one! Our Shelter dogs would absolutely love to have the chance to go for a walk and play games. If you are a Cat Person, you can walk in honor of your feline friend, but please leave your cat at home.

What should I bring? Have clothes for all kinds of weather conditions, especially rain. Bring money to buy some of the delicious food and drinks that will be offered or to buy a Homer Animal Friends T-Shirt.

What else will be happening? There will be contests and games for everyone. In addition, Homer Dog Trainers will provide information/demonstrations on fun things to do with your dog — training tips and techniques for obedience, tricks and agility.

What kind of contests will be held? During line up for the Strut, participants and their dogs will be judged in the following categories – Best Costume for your Dog,  Best Owner/Dog Look a Like and Best Mutt. Before and after the walk, contests will include Best Dog Trick,  Best Doggie Kisses (which dog gives the best kisses), Dog Wagging Time(which dog can wag its tail the longest), Best Singer .

Will there be any games to play with my dog? Games will include Water Relay  (your dog will LOVE watching and participating in this mini race with a cup of water), Musical Hoops (Dogs will walk in a circle with their owners and must sit inside the hula hoop when the music stops), and back by popular demand Dunk for Hot Dogs (dogs get to dunk for chunks of hot dogs). In addition, Homer Dog Trainers will have their own games, and tips on training and techniques for obedience, tricks and agility – learn all the fun things you can do with your dog.

Additional questions? If your question wasn’t answered, email us at homeranimals@gmail.com, or call Homer Animal Friends at 235-SPAY (235-7729) and leave a message. Someone will get back to you.
